shared lives

shared lives

living together in a hyperindividualized world

We live alongside each other, but increasingly less with each other. We’re expected to be self-made and autonomous, presenting ourselves as unique and desirable. Success is a choice; failure is your own fault. What do we lose when personal growth and optimization is prioritized over the collective?

Within shared lives, we explore dependency and vulnerability as necessary strengths. What if the other is not a competitor, but someone you need? How do we make space for one another again, in a world that seems to leave less and less room for it?

This subtheme is part of the shape of us, in which we explore, from different perspectives, what it means to live together.
