What makes people embrace alternative facts and believe conspiracy theories? According to world-famous behavioural psychologist Dan Ariely, we need to ditch the idea of ‘tin-foil hats’ and ‘crazies’, as we can all be susceptible to the attractive power of misinformation. Dan will share his research with us and show us why rational people – all along the political spectrum – can adopt irrational beliefs.

Dan Ariely is a professor of psychology and behavioural economics at Duke University. Dan is regarded as the world’s leading expert in the field of irrational behaviour, and has attracted millions of fans worldwide thanks to his bestseller Predictably Irrational and his popular TED Talks. In his new book Misbelief he argues that, in order to understand the irrational attractiveness of misinformation, we need to first understand our behaviour: the psychological and social factors that lead people to distrust accepted truths.

Online – Dan Ariely will join us via livestream.
