this is brainwash festival 2021

What happens when you ask today’s most crucial questions to the leading and most exciting philosophers, scientists, makers and writers of our time? Brainwash Festival (29, 30 and 31 October) is a three-day explosion of thought, questions and ideas, with over 150 speakers appearing in around 80 programmes. Check out the first names of what promises to be an incredible line-up!

What to expect?

Performances, talks, discussions, film, shows. You’ll find it all at Brainwash, preferably mixed up and jumbled up. We don’t focus on a single theme, but explore a range of urgent questions through programme routes. Check out our topics this year here.

Our festival has changed a bit this year. For starters, we’re moving to Leidseplein in Amsterdam, making Paradiso and Melkweg our main venues. Brainwash will also be more compact, with part of our programme also available online.

online and offline, we’re pushing the boundaries of thought

Festival dates

Our main festival day takes place on 31 October, with just one ticket getting you into over 70 programmes at and around Leidseplein in Amsterdam. Tickets for this day are on sale now!

But there’s more, like our opening party on 29 October. We also have three special programmes on 30 October, during which we look ahead towards the post-pandemic age with Future Affairs (NRC) and FreedomLab. We’ll be sending you updates on these events in the second half of August, through our newsletter, socials and website.

At the moment, we don’t know whether the government will impose additional corona requirements for visiting festivals this autumn. But we will let you know as soon as more information is available. Naturally, a ticket arrangement is in place if Brainwash Festival 2021 has to take place in another form because of the pandemic. Read more about this on our FAQ page.
